Four experts from Sciences Po selected for the European project "Evidence-Informed Policymaking"

Mélusine Boon-Falleur, Lou Safra, Clément Lacouette-Fougère and Mélanie Heard.

Mélusine Boon-Falleur, Assistant Professor at CRIS, Clément Lacouette-Fougère, secretary general of the Sciences Po Health Chair and co-director of the Executive Master Public Policy Management and Lou Safra, Assistant Professor at CEVIPOF and co-director of the Evaluation of Democracy Research Group at LIEPP, have been selected by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. They are part of a group of four French experts tasked with producing a report on evidence-informed policymaking.

The fourth member of the group is a Sciences Po alumna: Mélanie Heard, a member of the executive committee of the Sciences Po Health Chair, delegate-general of the think tank Evidences, and head of the health division at Terra Nova. Her PhD in political science and public health, completed at Sciences Po and funded by the ANRS, focused on the trade-offs between individual freedoms and the common good during epidemics.

We are delighted by the trust placed by the European Commission in our experts, which highlights the quality of our research and academic programs

« France already inspires in evidence-informed work, with a strong scientific and academic sector and trainings for public servants. We are looking forward to where our joint endeavours will take us. Especially, as we reflected in the launch, for the ongoing fight against disinformation and strengthening resilient democracies. »

Jolita Butkeviciene

Director for Innovation in Science & Policymaking at the Joint Research Centre, European Commission

The project Supporting evidence-informed policymaking for the twin transition aims to analyse the public policy ecosystem together with scientific experts: identifying the main stakeholders, understanding the existing barriers, and proposing ways to strengthen the use of scientific knowledge in the development and evaluation of public policies.

In France, this work is being carried out in collaboration with several French public institutions, including INRAE, the project coordinator in France, as well as the Court of Auditors, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space, the Interministerial Directorate for Public Transformation, the High Commission for Strategy and Planning, the General Commission for Sustainable Development, the CNRS, INSEE, and France Universités.

The French strand is part of a broader European program being conducted simultaneously in six other countries — Austria, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus, and Ireland — with the aim of better understanding how public institutions can strengthen the integration of scientific knowledge into decision-making.
