Report 2024

The results of research at Sciences Po for 2024 are exceptional. Fourteen new members have joined the permanent faculty. Seven are women and seven completed their doctorates outside France, in the United States or the United Kingdom. Their calibre confirms our international appeal.

The number and quality of publications and books testify to the dynamism and excellence of the research carried out. The acquisition of numerous and significant new research project grants guarantees fruitful results in the years to come.

Five new European projects have been awarded to Sciences Po for a total amount of more than €2 million. One of these – Understanding the Consequences of Health Crises for Education: Learning from the COVID-19 Pandemic, led by sociologist Bastian Betthaeuser (CRIS) – has received highly selective funding from the European Research Council.

In addition to this European support, 18 projects submitted by members of Sciences Po's permanent faculty have been selected by the French National Research Agency for a total amount of more than €1.3 million.

What has research produced and undertaken at Sciences Po in 2023?
This is the whole purpose of this report which sets out the main directions followed in 2023 by research at Sciences Po; results, publications and supporting meetings.
It focuses on the creation of the Institute for Environmental Transformations and the Free Institute for Digital Transformations. These institutes constitute the spearhead of the project - Transforming Undergraduate Education and Research in Evolving Democracies (TIERED, funded by France 2030). A ten-year partnership between Sciences Po and eight French university establishments (CNRS, IDDRI, IFREMER, INALCO, INED, INSERM, INRIA and University of Paris), its objective is to study the social, political and economic implications of environmental and technological transformations, and develop recommendations for the public and private sectors. Also presented are the research projects of two Assistant Professors of Sociology from Sciences Po, Philipp Brandt and Zachary van Winkle, winners of European Research Council grants.
