Project description:
Research on student precariousness is growing and questioning public policies aimed at promoting greater student autonomy. However, while these policies may have an effect on student autonomy, to what extent do they also change students' relationship to politics, and in what ways? This project is part of a long-term research project on the social and political effects of social policies on young people in Europe and aims to answer this question by focusing on students. Thanks to the literature on ‘policy feedback’ and other work on the subject, we know that being in a ‘familialised’ system ‘ system (where grants depend on parental income because young people are seen as children, as in France) or, conversely, in an ’individualised" system (where grants do not depend on parental income because young people are seen as adults, as in Sweden) can have an impact on young people's relationship with politics. However, this quantitative research does not allow us to open the black box of the mechanisms at work (micro vs. macro effects; incentive vs. interpretative effects). To test and assess their interrelationships, we wish to conduct this project.
