Selma Sarenkapa receives Swiss government excellence scholarship

The School of Research is pleased to announce that Selma Sarenkapa, a doctoral student at the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics (CEE), has been awarded a one-year research grant as part of the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships, one of the most prestigious academic support programmes in Switzerland.

Selma is working on the social construction of target groups in public policy and the media, particularly in France and Germany. Her research project analyses how certain social categories are defined, represented and mobilised in political and media discourse, and how these representations influence the formulation of public policy.

This scholarship will enable her to join the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Basel, where she will conduct her research in a dynamic and internationally recognised scientific environment. This research stay is an important step in her academic career, offering her the opportunity to deepen her investigations, collaborate with specialists in the field and develop new perspectives for her thesis.

This distinction highlights the quality of her doctoral project and the excellence of her research work. We offer her our warmest congratulations and wish her a particularly fruitful research stay in Basel.
