Lexus I International Product Manager, Givenchy Beauty

From Sciences Po to Givenchy Beauty, Lexus' career path, guided by a passion for marketing and luxury.

Can you describe your academic background?

I enrolled Sciences Po after three years at the Lycée Français de New York (LFNY). I chose to do my bachelor's degree in the North American program on the Reims campus, the city where I grew up.

One of the courses I took during my undergraduate studies was a marketing course on champagne. This ultimately sparked my interest in marketing.

My interest was further confirmed during my third year, which I spent at McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management in Montreal. The School of Management and Impact was a natural choice for me when I was deciding on my master's degree.

What are your main responsibilities?

I am currently International Product Manager at Givenchy Beauty (LVMH Fragrance Brands) for the Prisme Libre complexion makeup range.

My main responsibilities are:

  • Product development: developing a product from A to Z, from concept to business and market potential, by orchestrating the entire marketing mix for a product (packaging, formula, price, etc.).
  • Product activation: the 360-degree activation strategy that supports product launches and franchise activations by enabling communication with retailers and consumers.
  • Preparation of major meetings: weekly progress reports that facilitate project validation and decision-making processes

How has your training or experiences contributed to the position you hold today?

During my two years of master's studies, I took a wide range of courses. Some had a strong social science focus and were closely tied to current events in the sector. For example, there was Serge Carreira's course on the history of fashion. Others were more beauty-focused, such as Pascale Fontaine's course on perfume.

The numerous meetings organized as part of the master's program with renowned experts allowed me to grasp the current challenges facing the luxury sector. They were very valuable.

I also decided to work alongside my studies to enhance my CV and finance my degree. Working as a beauty advisor at Sephora was a great way to gain experience in the luxury industry.

Finally, before joining Givenchy Beauty, I had the opportunity to work for three and a half years at L'Oréal for Lancôme, YSL Beauty—where I completed my apprenticeship—and Valentino Beauty.

Do you have any advice for future students who want to enter the luxury sector?

Although I would prefer to be a little more positive, competition is fierce, especially for product development positions for luxury brands.

Build your career plan in advance, and gain as much professional experience and internships as possible to strengthen your skills.

Graduate programmes, such as the one I completed at L'Oréal, provide an excellent opportunity to enter the professional world and are highly valued within the sector.

How do you feel about your teaching experience at the School today?

I completed my entire university degree at this school and remain very fond of it. I am therefore extremely grateful for the opportunity to help train future generations of marketers.

My course, “Anatomy of Beauty: How to Innovate & Build Trust for Luxury Brands,” is offered to second-year students in the Master's program in "Marketing: New Luxury & Art de Vivre". This course explores current issues in the beauty industry with a focus on social sciences (behavioral economics, gender studies, history, and politics) to help students sharpen their eye while maintaining a critical mindset.

What a joy to return to Sciences Po after a few years away!
