Dr. Loris Servillo is an associate professor at Politecnico of Torino with a PhD in Territorial Planning and Local Development. He is currently a Marie Curie research fellow at Bartlett School of Planning (UCL). As a planner, he has about fifteen years of professional and academic experience first in Italy and then in Belgium, where he worked for about 10 years at the University of Leuven (KUL).

Research interests

His scientific interests are about (a) spatial planning system and multi-level governance process, with a specific focus on changes, rescaling processes and new governance arenas; (b) the role of EU in developing spatial initiatives through policy instruments; (c) the analysis of territorial and socio-spatial dynamics, in particular concerning small and medium sized towns and regions with low degree of urbanisation; and (d) community-led and strategic spatial planning initiatives.

Research project.s you intend to pursue at the CEE

He will develop further his ongoing research project REGAIN (REGionalism and INstututional dynamics in the EU), financed by the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship grant. The project aims at investigating the rescaling of governance practices induced by EU-led instruments and how these affect the public action and policy. In particular, REGAIN focuses on the Community Led Local Development (CLLD) policy instrument, and its capacity to activate place-based local development strategies for tailored regions.
