Alessandro Maggioni

Alessandro Maggioni holds a PhD in sociology awarded within the framework of a cotutelle including the DSRS – Dipartimento di Sociologia e della Ricerca Sociale at University of Milan-Bicocca and the Centre d’études européennes et politique comparé of Sciences Po, Paris.

He defended his thesis “The regulation of urban logistics platforms.The urban governance of food wholesale markets in France and Italy : the case of Paris (Semmaris) and Milan (Sogemi)”, on 26th March 2019: The committee included Alberta Andreotti, supervisor (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca), Antoine Frémont, reviewer (IFSTTAR), Patrick Le Galès, supervisor (Sciences Po, CEE, CNRS), Enzo Mingione (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca), Paolo Perulli, reviewer (Università del Piemonte Orientale), Tommaso Vitale (Sciences Po, CEE).

His doctoral research focused on the regulation of urban logistics infrastructures for food supply in French and Italian metropolitan regions, mobilizing a multi-disciplinary approach based on political sociology, public policy and territorial governance studies. Notably, he focused on the interaction among market changes, state reorganization and institutional configurations to explain infrastructural policy change.

His professional profile includes teaching and research experiences. He worked as Teaching Assistant for the module “Introduction to Sociology” at the Sciences College, Le Havre campus during 2015-2016 academic year. He participated as contract researcher for the preliminary assessment for Milan Food Policy in 2015, and as research assistant in 2016 for the research project CREATE – Congestion Reduction in Europe: Advancing Transport Efficency led by Charlotte Halpern (Chargée de recherché FNSP at CEE) in partnership with UCL – University College London, Department of Geography.

His research interest and professional activity focus on the role of interests include urban and metropolitan governance, local politics, the role of interest groups in public policy processes, policy analysis at local, national and European scale, and the transformative role of policy evaluation for public action.
