East Africa: The Indo-Pacific’s Western Perimeter

 

Speakers:

David Willima works as a Research Officer on maritime security at the Institute for Security Studies in the Pretoria office. Before joining the ISS, David worked for the Environmental Learning and Research Centre at Rhodes University in South Africa as a research assistant on the International  One Ocean Hub research programme for transformative ocean governance. In April 2022, David participated as one of the 28 International youth Delegates and the only African youth delegate at the 7th Our Ocean Conference co-hosted by the U.S government and Palau in Koror, Palau and was recently an ocean delegate speaker at the prestigious One Young World 2022 Young leaders summit in Manchester. David has a background in Political and International Studies from Rhodes University. He is currently studying towards a master's in Security Studies in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pretoria, focusing on Ocean governance in the Western Indian Ocean region.

 

Tshegofatso Johanna Ramachela has an Honours Degree in International Relations from the University of Pretoria, where she is currently completing her Masters's Degree in International Relations, specialising in Security Studies. Ms Ramachela is a Research Consultant for the Maritime Project at the Institute for Security Studies in South Africa. She is also a Research Consult on a project in the University of Pretoria’s Department of Political Science, where her focus is on BRICS vis-a-vis maritime security.
