Meet the Graduates 2023: Sasha Milanova

After completing high school in Sofia, Bulgaria, Sasha Milanova decided to join the Sciences Po Dijon Campus, to follow the European Union, Central and Eastern Europe minor. This led her to join the Paris School of International Affairs to pursue a Master in International Governance and Diplomacy along with the Advanced Certification in Gender Studies. Her story.

Why did you choose to pursue the Advanced Certification in Gender Studies in addition to your Master's Programme?

I grew up in the European Union's poorest country, Bulgaria, where different forms of oppression and patriarchal structures still condition the social and personal life of all individuals. I became a feminist from a very young age. Throughout my whole five-year journey in Sciences Po, I had the privilege to follow this personal passion and align it with my professional goals. When I discovered the Advanced Certification in Gender Studies, I thought it would enable me to strengthen my ambition to pursue a career in the area and most importantly showcase my dedication to potential employers. As a graduate, I think that the Advanced Certification adds additional value to my diploma, and I am glad I obtained it successfully!

What is the one advice that you would give to the next cohorts?

Never be afraid to speak up against inequality, discrimination or other forms of injustices.

What is next for you?

I am continuing my journey as a Junior Policy Analyst within the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation Directorate Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Team! I am truly grateful to all my colleagues who inspire me every day to continue the work of accelerating gender equality and making development gender equal.
