The CRIS is developing cutting-edge research on social stratification and inequalities. Its research programme follows 3 main goals:

  • To measure and compare the evolution of social inequalities in France and in contemporary societies
  • To analyse the mechanisms of social inequalities at several levels
  • To contribute to the analysis of public policies

The empirical and comparative sociological approach of the OSC researchers applies to several major areas of social life:

- Urban inequalities and spatial segregation
- Sociodemographic dynamics, family evolution
- Gender, sexuality, disability
- Culture, lifestyle, digital practices
- Educational background and educational policies
- Mobility, migration, minorities, discrimination
- Socioeconomic inequalities, labor market, welfare state
- Life course and intergenerational inequalities
