Description

This research project proposes to describe and evaluate an educational experiment led since 2011 in a priority neighborhood of Paris 18th borough: activities in the street for children, on an unconditional weekly basis, free and open to anyone. This project is carried out by a research unit, CEPED, and an association involved in these activities, Etoiles du Sol. Through the participant observation of these outdoor activities, study of the documentation about their 15 years of existence, and qualitative interviews with people taking part in it, this research project aims to establish how this form of popular education, based on a regular presence in public area, can be positive regarding the well-being of children in a popular neighborhood and their families’. This project will allow a scientifical evaluation of mechanisms by which this socio-pedagogical offer is a vector of socialization for children and their families, develops children’s psychosocial skills, and is an alternative to the screens at ages when confining in those is particularly noxious.

This project is supported by the Educational Policies research group.
