Energy justice, public action and collective mobilisation: a European comparison (JUSTENERGY)

Projet holders

Project Description

This project focuses on promoting public and collective action in the realm of energy justice, linking it to well-documented issues of energy poverty in three European countries: France, Spain, and the United Kingdom. While research on energy poverty has focused on low-income households and on indicators to define the energy poverty phenomenon and actions to mitigate it, the objective of our project is to investigate the dynamics of public and collective action aimed at ensuring and defending equitable access to energy resources in a context of environmental and climatic transition. We will analyze the terms, methods, and effects of public and collective action facing the gradual disappearance of universality and solidarity criteria long associated with energy access. This research project aims to observe, from both top-down and bottom-up perspectives at European, national, and local levels, the mechanisms of public initiatives designed to guarantee fair access to energy, alongside the mobilizations advocating for a view of social and environmental justice. We will also examine the interactions between mobilizations and public policies, as well as between conflict and cooperation.

This project is related to the LIEPP's research groups Environmental policies and Evaluation of Democracy.
