Position description
The Centre for History at Sciences Po (Paris, France) is hiring a Full Professor (“Professeur des universités”) in 19th/20th North-American History: Politics, Institutions and Societies.
Being Sciences Po a university that encourages multidisciplinary research and teaching, candidates must be able to interact with other disciplines (political science, sociology, law, anthropology etc..).
He/she/they must have a strong international scientific reputation and a broad teaching experience.
An excellent command of English and a commitment to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the French language are required.
The ability to establish or consolidate North-American and international research partnership as well as relevant fundraising experience are expected. Teaching and research experiences in foreign
universities, in particular in North-America, will be highly valued.
Requirements
Research
In terms of publications, the candidate must show evidence of substantial and innovative research, recognized at the international level. He/she/they must be involved in relevant North-American and international academic networks, and have demonstrated an ability to apply for external funding to conduct his/her/their research activity as well as to support doctoral research.
He/she/they will be actively involved in the academic supervision of master’s and doctoral theses.
He/she/they will pursue his/her/their research activities at the Centre for History and will co-lead the research seminar on Modern North American History.
Teaching
Teaching will be primarily in English and at the three levels of education that Sciences Po offers :
undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
Undergraduate teaching will take place at the Paris campus and mandatorily, at one of Sciences Po branch campuses : the Euro-American Programme in Reims. Graduate teaching will include courses offered in the Master of Research in History at Sciences Po School of Research in Paris.
The annual teaching load consists of 128 lecture-theatre class-equivalent hours (CM) which are generally divided into three 24-hour lecture and seminar courses (undergraduate and graduate) and 56 hours of pedagogical activities (e.g., student admissions, MA and PhD dissertation supervision, university administration tasks, etc.).

Candidates based in a French institution should have the French status of "Professeur/Professeure des univesités" or "Maître/Maîtresse de conférence avec Habilitation à diriger des recherches (HDR)".
Candidates based in foreign institution at the time of recuitment should be Full professor, Associate Professor or occupy an equivalent position.
Candidates must submit their application through the "Galaxie" portal of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research by February 9, 2024 at 4 pm, Paris time.

The application must include the following documents:
● A 800 to 1000 word cover letter, which outlines the research projects the candidate intends to pursue;
● A CV and complete list of publications;
● 3 selected publications, including at least one monograph;
● A teaching statement (undergraduate level), including a summary of the candidate's teaching experiences, and, if available, students’ evaluations.

Applications will be examined by the Selection Committee, which will shortlist 3-4 candidates who
will be invited to present their research in a seminar open to Sciences Po’s entire academic
community, followed by a ‘Job talk’ with the Selection Committee.
