Global IR in the planetary era

Our Global IR Seminar brings together faculty members at CERI, including visiting and associate scholars, doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and colleagues from institutions in France and abroad to engage with the major questions shaping contemporary international relations (IR), since the “global IR” turn of the 2010s. 

The seminar also explores what it means to rethink international relations from the perspective of a shared and finite planet, where political life is inseparable from the Earth systems that sustain human and non-human life, and where climate change and the crossing of planetary limits challenge established ways of understanding global politics.

Rooted in CERI’s interdisciplinary tradition, the seminar promotes an open, pluralist, and decentered approach to the study of IR. It explores the diversity of actors, spaces, knowledge systems, and experiences that shape global affairs, while fostering dialogue across disciplinary traditions and geographical perspectives.
