Deputy Dean for the past year, Sébastien Pimont is now officially taking over from Christophe Jamin as Dean of the Law School at the start of the September 2020 academic year. This succession, although prepared over a long period of time, is occurring during an unprecedented educational context. However, that doesn’t scare this university professor who sees an even greater opportunity to pursue continuous educational innovation, a trademark of the Law School. Interview.
Camille Gaumont is the Cycling Project Manager at Plaine Commune, a public institution representing 9 communes to the north of Paris. She is the cycling lead for the entire area, which is half the size of Paris and home to 430,000 inhabitants.
Noa Levy Baron graduated in May 2020 from the Dual BA Program Between Sciences Po and Columbia University. A Human Rights Major with a specialisation in Psychology, she wrote a research essay entitled “Art Therapy with Refugees: Overcoming Processes of Pathologization and Fostering Social Integration”, which won the Human Rights Institute of Columbia Essay Contest. Michael Allegretti is the Chief Strategy Officer at Rubicon, a software company using technology to drive environmental innovation. Throughout his multi-faceted career in policy, he has concentrated on leadership and problem solving, and attributes his interests partly to his time at Sciences Po. “Sciences Po taught me that focus: how do you lead, whether it's the highest level of the French Presidency down to Parliament or city governments, in a way that solves problems for people?” Allegretti says. “That is ultimately what I believe good public policy is about, solving problems in a cost effective and fair way.”
Thierry Bernard is the CEO of QIAGEN, a life science and molecular diagnostic company currently at work producing COVID-19 tests. Bernard says that his entry into the healthcare industry was “purely coincidence,” but he has excelled thanks to “the mindset that Sciences Po gives you to always try to go the extra mile.”
With the death of Jacques Chirac in September 2019, a light goes out on a chapter of French political history and on one of Sciences Po’s most illustrious alumni. During his three years at the Institut d’études politiques, from 1951 to 1954, France’s former president would take his first strides into the dazzling career that was to follow.
Maile Cannon, a French-born Chinese journalist and English dialogue coach, speaks to students at Sciences Po's J-School in Paris. The author also works as a voice actress, dubbing director, and post-production consultant in Beijing.
Evan Epstein is an expert in corporate governance, a field he describes as “like peeling an onion, once you get into this, there are all of these different layers that you have to dig into.” It is clear that Epstein’s journey has also been multilayered, and that his semester studying abroad at Sciences Po was just one of the many experiences that he has fully dug into.
We spoke with Abby Butkus, Program Manager at Catalyst Fund. Abby got her Master’s degree at Sciences Po before working in Rwanda and now in the United States. In this interview, Abby discusses her current career in fintech and her advice for connecting to the Sciences Po network.
Aurélien Breeden is a reporter at the New York Times Paris bureau, covering France and all things related. Pauline Vermare, the Cultural Director for Magnum Photos New York, believes that “it's thanks to Sciences Po that I am what I am now.” After graduating with a Master of International Relations, Vermare embarked on a transatlantic career in photography and remains extremely thankful for what she received from Sciences Po.
