Current Research

Paul Servais is pursuing a PhD in comparative political science, examining the direct and indirect effects of climate change on political behaviour in Western Europe. His research master's dissertation focused on the electoral consequences of wind turbine installations in rural areas of France. Drawing on quantitative methods of causal inference combined with qualitative fieldwork, he shows that the electoral outcomes of this public policy can be understood in light of conflicting relationships to land use in rural settings. His doctoral research, which employs similar methods, aims to extend this analysis to other consequences of climate change, particularly in relation to mitigation and (mal)adaptation.
