Biography
Holding a Master's degree in political science from the University of Ottawa following an Honours Bachelor’s in anthropology, Engi Abou-El-Kheir is currently pursuing a mixed method doctoral thesis in comparative politics through a cotutelle with Sciences Po Paris under the direction of Florence Haegel, and the University of Ottawa under the direction of Daniel Stockemer. She is currently a doctoral fellow at the Konrad Adenauer Research Chair in Empirical Democracy Studies and a research and policy advisor with the Canadian Arab Institute and will be a visiting researcher at Concordia University and the University Jean Moulin Lyon 3. She has previously been a research associate or assistant at NORDIK Institute/Algoma University and the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation.

Current Research
Her Master’s and doctoral research center on how the vote, partisanship, and political affiliation of diaspora minorities in the Western world intersect with religion, culture, citizenship, and belonging, mainly focusing on Arab-origin citizens in Europe and North America. She has carried out other research on women and ethnic minorities in politics, as well as Middle Eastern politics.
Teaching
Engi has been a teaching assistant for various political science classes, including on political participation and international relations. She has also aided in the supervision of undergraduate students in directed research classes and quantitative methods summer schools.
