Collecting new data in the ELIPSS Panel
For more than 10 years, the CDSP has offered any individual or organisation conducting research in the social sciences and humanities the opportunity to carry out an online survey using the ELIPSS Panel.
The ELIPSS Panel
The Étude Longitudinale par Internet Pour les Sciences Sociales (ELIPSS) is a panel established in 2012 by Sciences Po’s Centre de Données Socio-Politiques (CDSP). It is designed to study changes in behaviours, circumstances and opinions within French society.
ELIPSS provides researchers with the opportunity to conduct questionnaire-based surveys among a randomly selected sample of the population of metropolitan France aged 18 and over. As of January 2026, the panel includes more than 3,000 members, with survey participation rates exceeding 80%.
Who can use it?
Any individual or organisation conducting research in the social sciences and humanities may submit a survey proposal. Projects may take the form of a short module consisting of a few questions or a questionnaire using an entire monthly survey slot of approximately twenty minutes, with the possibility of repeating the survey over time.
What types of projects are supported?
Projects are assessed on the basis of their feasibility and relevance to the ELIPSS Panel. The evaluation is carried out by the ELIPSS team, with input from the CDSP Scientific and Technical Board and, where necessary, external experts.
Assessment criteria include in particular:
- scientific quality;
- methodological relevance;
- suitability for the characteristics of the ELIPSS Panel.
Projects must pursue a strictly scientific purpose, with no commercial objective. The data produced must be made available to interested research communities as soon as possible.
Partner research teams contribute to the operation of the programme, alongside the support provided by the CDSP’s supervisory institutions.
Support and Survey Implementation
Once a project has been accepted, the ELIPSS team supports research teams in designing the questionnaire and adapting it to the panel, taking particular account of its longitudinal dimension.
The team also manages the different stages of survey implementation: questionnaire programming, testing, data collection, fieldwork monitoring and follow-up reminders, as well as the delivery of an analysis-ready dataset.
