Dr Marie Mendras is a political scientist in the field of Russian and post-Soviet studies. She is a research fellow with the CNRS and CERI, and a professor at Sciences Po/Paris School of International Affairs.
Marie Mendras is an Associate Fellow with the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House (RIIA) in London. She is on the editorial board of journals Esprit (Paris) and Pro et Contra (Moscow) and is a member of the EU-Russia Centre in Brussels.
At CERI, Dr Mendras conducts research on the Russian political system, elite behaviour and society. She runs the Observatoire Russie which organizes a seminar series and online publication of papers: Cahiers Russie - Russia Papers.
From 2008 to 2010, she was professor in the Government Department of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). In earlier years, she taught at université Paris 1 Sorbonne, université Paris 10 Nanterre, université catholique de Louvain, Ecole des Mines in Paris, and MGIMO in Moscow.
Marie Mendras consulted for the Policy Planning Staff of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1983 to 1991, and the Directorate for Strategic Affairs at the French Ministry of Defence from 1992 to 1998. She occasionally provides expertise for the European Union institutions: Parliament, Commission, Council.
Marie Mendras holds a Doctorate in political science (Sciences Po). She was educated at Essex University, Sciences Po and Institut des langues et civilisations orientales (INALCO) in Paris, SAIS-Johns Hopkins University, and Harvard University.
