Power in the Electric Age

On April 23, 2026, Laurence Tubiana, Dean of the Paris Climate School and Honorary Professor at Tsinghua University, was invited to speak as part of the Tsinghua Climate Change Global Lecture series.

On this occasion, Laurence Tubiana delivered a lecture entitled Power in the Electric Age, attended by nearly 1,200 participants. The talk, which was very well received, focused on the structural vulnerabilities of the global energy system built on fossil fuels.

Laurence Tubiana explored how the transition to clean energy is profoundly reshaping global geopolitical dynamics, emphasizing in particular that electrification does not simply reduce dependence on fossil fuels, but more broadly transforms “the relationship between geography, energy and power.” While acknowledging the complex challenges associated with this transition, she put forward an optimistic vision of a new energy order based on renewables, which she described as “more stable, more resilient, and ultimately more desirable than the one it replaces.”
