International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity (IAPB)This session explores how high-integrity biodiversity credit markets can mobilize investment in nature while centering scientific rigor, equity, and local stewardship. Opening reflections will set the stage on the global biodiversity financing gap and the potential of credits as a complementary tool to drive measurable conservation and restoration outcomes.
We will then turn to the building blocks of credible markets: verified ecological impact, durability and additionality, fairness for communities, and governance frameworks capable of scaling in diverse contexts. From there, perspectives from policy, finance, disclosure, business innovation, community guardianship, and marine ecosystems will ground the discussion in practice.
The conversation will draw on insights from European policy leadership, highlighting how public roadmaps and regulatory frameworks can establish integrity and resilience for emerging markets. Financial expertise will demonstrate how capital can be mobilized at scale, structuring instruments that integrate biodiversity credits into global markets without sacrificing credibility. Disclosure and accountability frameworks will show how biodiversity can be incorporated into financial risk management and reporting, ensuring trust and comparability. Innovative business approaches will present how regenerative land use can be monetized through credits while aligning with science-based metrics. The perspectives of guardianship and local stewardship will emphasize the rights of Indigenous Peoples and communities, with fair benefit-sharing at the center. Marine voices will illustrate how credit markets can extend to ocean ecosystems, channeling finance to protect global commons and marine protected areas.
Together, these contributions will highlight the opportunities and challenges of creating nature credit markets that are not only financial tools, but instruments of ecological justice, systems that align capital flows with a nature-positive future, avoid greenwashing, and deliver lasting benefits for people and the planet.
