The CiMENA Prize, MENA Program Video Contest

 

Sciences Po's MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Program is pleased to announce the creation of a CiMENA Prize for Sciences Po students. In line with the program's objectives, the prize aims to spark and strengthen interest in the MENA region and stimulate artistic production within the Sciences Po student community.

The Video Award in brief

The project is structured around two complementary components:

A competition in which any student enrolled in Sciences Po's undergraduate program can submit a video production (3-4 minutes long) of any type (film, animation, etc.) on an annual theme. The competition will select three winners:

1st prize

2nd prize

And a special prize.

Video creation workshops, organized in conjunction with Sciences Po campuses and led by artists. These workshops are organized in partnership with the Maison des Arts et de la Création de Sciences Po (MAC).

The 2025 Video Prize

The theme for the 2025 edition will be Countries/Ages (translated from the French “Pays/ages”, meaning “Lanscapes”), with the following instructions:

Show the landscapes, real or imagined, that connect you to North Africa or the Middle East—between memory, contemporary movements, and imaginations of the future.

The jury for the 2025 edition will be chaired by Marianne Khoury, film director.

The 2025 edition is supported by the Maison des Arts & de la Création de Sciences Po.

Rules

The contest is open to any individual enrolled in an initial training program at Sciences Po.

Participation in the Prize is free of charge and implies the full and unconditional acceptance of these rules by the participants, as well as their enforcement by the organizers.

Each applicant is required to submit a recent and original audiovisual production, lasting between 2 and 4 minutes, of which they are the author, to the following address (mena.program@sciencespo.fr) by February 28, 2026, at 12:00 pm (Paris time).

The submission must include the following information:

  1. The title of the production
  2. The full name(s) and email address(es) of the candidate(s)/author(s)
  3. Student ID number(s)
  4. A brief comment of two to three lines maximum
  5. A signed statement certifying that you hold the rights to the video

The contribution may be written in either French or English.

 

Any incomplete file and/or submission received after February 28, 2026, at 12:00 pm (Paris time) will be rejected, and candidates will have no right of appeal against the organizers.

Submission guidelines: Please send the video in MP4 format no later than Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 12:00 pm (Paris time) to the following address: mena.program@sciencespo.fr.

Video format : HD 1280x720 or 1920x1080 .mp4 or .mov.

 

Selection criteria: The jury will evaluate the videos based on quality, artistic creativity, and relevance to the theme “Pays/ages” as well as to the MENA region.

 

Countries included in the scope of the MENA region for this contest are: Afghanistan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Yemen.

Prizes: The jury will award a prize of €500 to the winner in the form of a gift card, and €200 each in the form of a gift card for the second prize and the special prize.

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE "MENA PROGRAMME VIDEO CONTEST”

ARTICLE 1: PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION

The Foundation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (FNSP), a foundation under private law, entrusted by virtue of the provisions of article L758-1 of the Education Code with the administrative and financial management of the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (IEP), it is recalled that the two entities are grouped together under the name "Sciences Po", domiciled at 27, rue Saint Guillaume 75337 Paris Cedex 07, France, represented by the Administrator of the FNSP and Director of the IEP de Paris, hereinafter referred to as "the Organiser" (“Sciences Po”), is launching a contest entitled “MENA Program Video Contest” rewarding videos that highlight the Middle East and North Africa region (list of countries to be included), around the theme Pays/ages (hereinafter the “Contest”).

The purpose of this initiative is to showcase the Middle East and North Africa region.

Countries included in the scope of the MENA region for this contest are: Afghanistan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Yemen.

ARTICLE 2: PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST

Participation in the Competition is free, and implies full acceptance of these regulations by the participants and their implementation by the Organizer.

Eligibility: Any individual enrolled in a full-time degree program at Sciences Po during the 2025/26 academic year is eligible to participate in the Contest, with the exception of legally incapacitated persons. Each student or group of students may submit only one entry.

Submission guidelines: Participants must send their chosen video no later than February 28, 2026, at 12:00 pm (Paris time) to the following address: mena.program@sciencespo.fr. The video must be in MP4 format and have a duration between 2 and 4 minutes.

The video must be accompanied by the following additional elements:

  • The title of the production
  • The full name(s) and email address(es) of the candidate(s)/author(s)
  • Student ID number(s)
  • A short comment of no more than two or three lines
  • A signed statement certifying that you hold the rights to the video

The contribution may be submitted in French or in English.

ARTICLE 3: CONTENT OF VIDEOS

Participants are free to choose the format of their videos. All videos of a racist, defamatory, discriminatory nature or offensive to human dignity or in contradiction with the laws in force, violating in any way whatsoever the rights of a third party and in particular, the rights of personality (name, image, etc.) will be refused. 

In this regard, candidates have no recourse against the Organizer and/or the members of the jury for any exclusion of a candidate from the Competition for the aforementioned reasons.

The author of the submission must ensure compliance with image rights for all persons represented and identifiable in the video

ARTICLE 4: SELECTION PROCESS AND PRIZES

4.1. Three winning videos selected by the Contest Jury

All videos will be reviewed by an international jury composed of academics and professionals. The jury will assess the videos both on content (relevance to the MENA region and to the theme “Pays/ages”) and on form (originality of approach and clarity of narrative). Based on criteria of originality, quality, and relevance, the jury will select two videos and award two prizes. The jury will also rank the two selected videos according to the purpose of the Prize, as detailed in this Article.

4.2. Jury decision

In the event of a tie, the chair of the jury shall have the casting vote. Candidates shall have no right of appeal against the Organizer and/or members of the jury regarding the selection of videos.

4.3. Prizes awarded by the jury
Prizes: The jury will award a prize of €500 to the winner in the form of a gift card, and €200 each in the form of a gift card for the second prize and the special prize. The Organizers reserve the right to modify the list of prizes at any time and without prior notice.

4.4. Announcement of winners
The results will be announced to candidates by email on March 30,  2026. Candidates shall have no right of appeal against the Organizer and/or members of the jury regarding the selection of videos.

Prizes must be accepted as awarded. The Organizers will contact the winning candidates to arrange prize delivery.

4.5. Timeline

  • Participants must submit their video no later than February 28, 2026.
  • The selection jury will meet in March 2026 to determine the two winners of the contest.
  • Results will be announced on April 30, 2026.

ARTICLE 5: USE OF THE VIDEOS

5.1. Each submission provided to the Organizer within the framework of the Competition, whether or not it appears among the winning video, is likely to be used and distributed, for non-commercial purposes, on the Internet and social networks, on the television, on all Hertzian, cable or digital channels by all existing or future means, in all forms and/or on all media known or unknown to date such as in particular DCD, VOD, downloading, within the framework of teaching activities and research of Sciences Po as well as its related activities which would be linked to it, which the participants expressly accept, under the conditions defined below.

The videos selected by the jury may in particular be publicly disseminated by Sciences Po.

5.2. In the context of the above-mentioned broadcasts, the Organizer then undertakes to indicate on the production the mention "of" followed by the surname and first name of the participant concerned, the author of the video.

The participants declare that they are informed that, given the current state of the art, the indication of their names and the reproductions of their videos, in particular on telecommunication networks such as the Internet, may be altered or partial and that the responsibility of the Organizer cannot be held liable in this respect.

5.3. The Organizer undertakes not to in any way affect the integrity of the submission as part of the Competition. However, the Organizer has the right to juxtapose the submission with other submission or intellectual creations.

The Organizer also has the right to associate the submission with any visual element of Sciences Po such as its logo and graphic charter as well as those of the sponsors.

ARTICLE 6: COMMITMENTS OF CANDIDATES AND WINNERS

6.1. Each participant certifies that they are the author of the video they submit, assume full responsibility for all related rights, and guarantee the Organizer against any claims from third parties in this respect.

The participant guarantees the Organizer that their video does not constitute a violation of intellectual property rights. The participant guarantees the Organizer that he/she holds the necessary rights and authorizations from the rights holders, third parties, or collecting societies.

Otherwise, the participant will be disqualified.

6.2. As a result of their participation in the Competition, the candidates transfer to the Organizer, on a non-exclusive and free basis, the rights of reproduction, representation and adaptation of their respective videos, in whole or in part, for the whole world and for the legal term of copyright protection.

Candidates expressly authorize the Organizer to use their surnames and first names for all purposes of public information about the Competition and in particular for the publication of the list of winners in the audiovisual, paper, or electronic press, whatever the medium used, in particular on the website of the Competition and/or the Organizer.

The winners will be invited, without commitment, to participate in certain communication actions at the Organizer's request.

ARTICLE 7: PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA

The personal information collected within the framework of the Contest is processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act n° 78-17 of January 6, 1978, and all national and European provisions in force relating to data protection, in particular the European regulation on data protection. protection of personal data which entered into force on May 25, 2018.

Participants are informed that their personal data concerning them are recorded in the context of the Competition and are necessary for their participation to be taken into account.

The personal data collected by the Organizer within the framework of the Competition are the first name, surname, date of birth, e-mail address, and postal address of the Candidate. The Organizer, as data controller, undertakes to use personal data for the sole purposes of the Competition.

The information collected on this form is recorded in a file computerized by the Office of International Affairs and the Communications Department of Sciences Po (mena.program@sciencespo.fr). The data collected will not be communicated and will be kept for only 6 months before being deleted.

In accordance with the legislation in force, all participants have a right to access, modify and rectify personal data concerning them, and may oppose the computer processing of this information on simple request by writing to the following address: cnil@sciencespo.fr.

ARTICLE 8: MODIFICATION CONDITIONS

The Organizer reserves the right, for any reason whatsoever, to modify, extend, shorten, suspend or cancel the Contest, without its liability being incurred as a result.

In such cases, no compensation can be requested by the participants.

The latest version of the rules posted on the Internet page of the contest is binding on all participants by the simple fact of its availability.

The participant does not receive any notification as to the modification of the content of these rules and therefore undertakes to regularly consult the aforementioned internet address so that he/she makes sure to have the latest version of the rules.

ARTICLE 9: INTERNET NETWORK

The Organizer reminds participants of the limits of the Internet network and declines all responsibility for the consequences of the connection of participants to this network via the Competition site.

Furthermore, the Organizer cannot be held liable in the event of a delivery problem and/or loss of postal or electronic mail.

ARTICLE 10: DEPOSIT OF PAYMENT

As this Contest has no commercial or advertising purpose, the reimbursement of any postage or internet connection costs that registration may have incurred cannot be requested from the Organizer.

ARTICLE 11: ACCEPTANCE OF THE REGULATION

The mere fact of participating in the Competition implies pure and simple acceptance of these rules and of the Organizer's arbitration for the cases provided for and not provided for.

The parties will endeavor to resolve amicably any dispute that may arise during the execution of these rules.

In case of disagreement remaining, the courts of Paris will have sole jurisdiction.
