African History
Experiences | Social Actors, Movements, & Groups
The history of Africa has become an international field in which historians and social actors debate and engage in dialogue. A field marked by multiple divisions and inequalities (access to research, publication policies, resources), it invites researchers to understand the challenges of historical discourse as it is expressed in different places, on different media, and from different social and subjective positions. Writing histories of Africa requires not only knowledge of the past, but also an understanding of the issues and debates that run through the discipline.
The seminar offers participants the opportunity to read academic works that have had a significant impact on the history and historiography of Africa and African diasporas. This semester, we are looking at the history of the environment and health.
This reading seminar is open to master's and doctoral students from Sciences Po and elsewhere, subject to acceptance by the professor. It is based on the principle of debate and discussion among participants: it is therefore essential to have read and carefully analysed the proposed works before each session.
