Biography

Dr. Agnieszka Wierzcholska is a Holocaust researcher, interested in Polish-Jewish relations, Polish-German history, Yiddish press and Yiddish-speaking intellectuals.
She was a researcher and lecturer at the Institute for Eastern European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin (2011–2021), where she received her PhD in 2019. Her dissertation, „Nur Erinnerungen und Steine sind geblieben. Leben und Sterben einer polnisch-jüdischen Stadt, Tarnów 1918–1945“ (Brill/Schöningh 2022), was awarded the prize for the best doctoral thesis in Germany on Polish history in 2019. She held a post-doc position at the German Historical Institute in Paris in 2021–2022. While working for the Foundation “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe” in Berlin (2023–2025), she co-authored the concept for a future museum „The German-Polish House“. Since 2025 she held a post-doc grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Moses-Mendelssohn-Centre for European-Jewish Studies in Potsdam. She is joining the Centre d’histoire at the SciencesPo as Assistant Professor in September 2025.
