It is now 2026, and 10 years have passed since the Paris Agreement on climate change was adopted during COP21.

Although some indisputable progress has been made, multilateralism and climate consciousness have been increasingly challenged by the spread of protectionism, populism and disillusionment with supranational organizations and commitments. This has led the Brazilian COP30 presidency to advocate for more collaboration among States and for a collective reflection on how to tackle current pressing challenges with respect to climate action, by reforming and re-inventing it.

Has the Paris Agreement fallen short of expectations? Were the outcomes of COP30 predictable? Is this really the end for climate multilateralism?

Join us for a panel discussion on multilateral climate action, featuring:

  • José Ignacio Martínez Echenique, Multilateral Policy Officer at the International Energy Agency (IEA);
  • Sarah Thompson, Senior research programme manager of the European Chair for Sustainable Development and Climate Transition at Sciences Po and PhD Candidate, Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB);
  • David Levaï, UN Advocacy Lead at the ISWE Foundation and former Policy Advisor during COP21 negotiations.

The panel will be followed by an interactive Q&A session with the audience.
