Frédéric Gros is a Full Professor at Sciences Po. He holds a PhD in Philosophy and the HDR -habilitation à diriger des recherches (a French qualification authorising the holder to supervise academic research). He also holds the Aggrégation in Philosophy and is a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure of the Rue d’Ulm.
At Sciences Po, he lectures on three programmes:
His research focuses on contemporary French philosophy (notably on the thinking of Michel Foucault on which he has taught several courses at the Collège de France – Subjectivité et vérité, L’Herméneutique du sujet, Le Gouvernement de soi et des autres, Le Courage de la vérité.
He has also published much of Foucault’s written work for Gallimard and the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade; the bases for the right to punish; the problems of war and security; the ethics of the political subject (particularly through the problem of obeying/disobeying). His current work focuses on ‘shame’ as a political affect.
