Biography

Woosuk Yang holds a research master’s degree in political theory from Sciences Po. He subsequently completed additional master’s degrees at Université Paris Cité and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, earning degrees in psychoanalysis and economics, respectively. Prior to moving to Paris, he studied sociology, political science, and economics at Sungkonghoe University in Seoul, South Korea.

His three master’s theses addressed, in succession: an attempt to apply Slavoj Žižek’s concept of universality to contemporary politics; a comparative analysis of the theoretical structures of Freud and Marx through the notions of “determinism” and “reductionism”; and an articulation between the Marxian theory of value and normative logics of economic redistribution.

He is currently pursuing a PhD under the supervision of Gil Delannoi, focusing on a reconstruction of political universalism in the thought of Karl Marx. His research explores the universalist dimensions of Marx’s political thought, with particular attention to historical materialism and social theory, and proposes a rereading of Marx’s work as a whole through the concept of class struggle, conceived as a form of universality or as an invariant.

His doctoral research is funded by the Kwanjeong Foundation.
