Biography
Emeritus Researcher
Serge Galam is a physicist a specialist in disordered systems, a pioneer in sociophysics, and emeritus CNRS Senior Research Fellow.
After an international career in physics (Tel-Aviv University, City College of New York, New York University), he returned to France with a CNRS position at the Pierre and Marie Curie University. In 2003, strengthened by his conviction that certain social and political behaviours obey quantifiable and discoverable laws, he decided to devote himself entirely to his research in sociophysics joining the CREA - Centre de Recherche en Epistémologie Appliquée de l'École Polytechnique .
At the end of 2013, Galam crossed a disciplinary "boundary" and became a member of the CEVIPOF at Sciences Po. His challenge is to establish a hard science component in the social sciences, i.e. one that is refutable and capable of producing measurable predictions. He has thus taken on a human and scientific adventure combined with a methodological, epistemological and cultural challenge.
Research themes: Sociophysics, Disordered Systems, Minority Opinion Dynamics, Voting, Rumors, Terrorism, Coalitions forming, Decision Making, Controversies.
