Olivier Costa

Olivier Costa is a CNRS-affiliated Research Professor at CEVIPOF-Sciences Po. He was awarded his PhD in 1998 by the Paris 8 University. His thesis focused on the workings of the European Parliament and was entitled “The European Parliament: a Deliberative Assembly”.

He then spent the following year at the Institute for European Studies in Brussels (Université Libre de Bruxelles). He joined the CNRS in 1999 and worked at the Emile Durkheim Centre at Sciences Po Bordeaux. He joined CEVIPOF in January 2021.

He lectures on European Union institutions and policies, notably at Sciences Po Paris, within the School of Public Affairs. He has previously taught at Sciences Po Bordeaux, Sciences Po Strasbourg, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the College of Europe (Bruges) and the University of Geneva’s European Institute. He has been a visiting professor at Ritsumeikan University (Kyoto), Washington State University (Pullmann, WA), the University of Colorado (Boulder, CO), the University of Cologne (the Theseus European Studies Chair) and at the Luiss University-Guido Carli (Rome).

He serves is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of European Integration (Taylor&Francis), the Journal of Legislative Studies (Taylor& Francis), the International Journal of Parliamentary Studies (Brill) and the European Law Journal (Wiley).

Olivier Costa has nine books to his credit and has edited 20 books and special issues of a number of reviews.

He has published articles in the following journals: Journal of European Public Policy, West European Politics,  Journal of European Integration, Journal of Legislative Studies, Representation, Journal of Common Market    Studies, Revue Française de Science Politique, Politique européenne, Revue internationale de politique comparée, Pouvoirs, French Politics.
