Tristan Boursier holds a doctorate in political science from the Université de Montréal and Sciences Po Paris (2023). He is also a graduate of the University of Geneva (2016). His doctoral thesis focused on the obstacles to inclusive solidarity.

Before joining the CEVIPOF, he was a visiting doctoral student at Oxford University under the supervision of Cécile Laborde. He has also been a member of various research networks, including the Jean Monnet Centre in Montreal.

His research challenges traditional conceptions of political solidarity, focusing on its alleged opposition to cultural diversity. To do so, he questions the philosophical underpinnings of the public controversy known as the ‘progressive dilemma’. In his second line of research, he addresses the issues surrounding the success of the extreme right online. In particular, he is studying the phenomenon of political influencers and mapping their distribution strategies and ideological affinities.

 As part of this second area of research, he is working as a postdoctoral researcher with Mélissa Blais at the Université du Québec en Outaouais to understand transnational dynamics within the extreme right between North America and Western Europe. He is also a member of the Chantier sur l'antiféminisme and the Réseau québécois en études féministes (RéQEF).
