Biography

Oscar Basnier-Guérin completed his entire academic career at Sciences Po. He holds a research master’s degree in political theory.
His master’s thesis sought to identify what deliberation can achieve in the face of plural ethical and political disagreements, often deemed “insurmountable.” His study focused on the issue of end-of-life decisions.
Oscar Basnier is currently preparing a PhD at CEVIPOF, under the supervision of Bernard Reber (CNRS/ CEVIPOF) and Philippe Portier (EPHE / CNRS).
He broadens the scope of his study to the variety of “deliberative arenas” (citizens’ conventions, professional commissions, parliamentary assemblies) that lead to public compromises shaped by plural convictions, dimensions, and domains. He examines the plurality and interdependence of deliberative moments that contribute to crafting a well-considered decision, intended to address ethical dilemmas often set aside in the political arena.
