lucas.puygrenier

Lucas Puygrenier holds a PhD in political science. His research investigates how states’ attempts to manage migrations intersect with the ambition to regulate capitalism. His doctoral dissertation, entitled “Redundant people: Labor formation and the management of populations in Malta”, was conducted under the supervision of Béatrice Hibou between 2019 and 2024. It shows how the lines between the human presences that are deemed to be legitimate and those considered to be “redundant” are continuously shifting according to the changing understandings of the “needs” of the economy and of the role the state is expected to play in the management of production. His research has been published in several venues, including la Revue européenne des migrations internationales, Theory and Society, and the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies.

Since September 2023, Lucas Puygrenier is also a part-time lecturer (ATER) at the University of Lille and an affiliated member with the CERAPS.
