Asian Population in Europe (PopAsiE)
About

PopAsiE is a collective research space between the CERI (Sciences Po Paris, PolAsie project), the Group “Migrations in Asia” at IFRAE (Inalco) an d the Axis "Mobilities, urbanities, memory" at IrAsia (University Aix-Marseille), CY Cergy Paris Université (Héritages and Agora) and Sciences Po Bordeaux (Centre Emile Durkheim).
This seminar is a place of dialogue for researchers who work with varied methodological approaches. on the mobilities, memories and mobilizations of Asian populations in Europe. PopAsiE seminar is co-organized by the CERI (Sciences Po Paris), the group “Migrations in Asia, migrations from Asia” at IFRAE (Inalco) and the axis Mobilities, Urbanities, Memories at IrAsia (University Aix-Marseille). The seminar is also supported by the research project PolAsie, "Political Participation of Asian Immigrants and their Descendants in France" founded by the ANR - French National Research Agency.
Asian immigration in France, as in many other European countries, remains less often studied and its diversity unknown. Their migration histories, pathway of settlement and integration and social representation vary according to the national context. The epidemic of COVID 19 and the wave of attacks on people of Asian origin have, however, highlighted the emerging mobilizations aiming to change representations and claim a place in the imagination of the national community. Whether in terms of the history of migratory paths, representations or political participation, the present seminar proposes a comparative approach through surveys conducted in various European countries.
The seminar offers several formats of interventions: researchers are invited to present the results of their research projects, their publications, and their current surveys. This seminar also invites master and doctoral students to present their work.
