Biography
Yuyang Hong (pronunciation for English speakers: Yu/Yang/Hong) is a PhD candidate in Political Science, specializing in International Relations, at the Centre for International Studies (CERI) since 2024, under the supervision of Françoise Mengin and Jérôme Doyon. His research focuses on China's exterior policy, with a particular emphasis on Sino-Taiwanese relations, which he examines through a micro-sociological approach.
Relying on qualitative methods, including interviews and other ethnographic techniques, his research explores the familial, educational, and professional backgrounds of Chinese "street-level bureaucrats" working in local Taiwan Affairs Offices. He is particularly interested in their roles and subjectivities in the formulation and implementation of China’s policy towards Taiwan.
In addition, Yuyang Hong coordinate, alongside Nowmay Opalinski, the Doctoral Workshop on Contemporary China. Prior to joining CERI, he obtained a research master's degree in International Relations from Sciences Po's School of Research, as well as a bachelor's degree in French Language and Literature from Renmin University of China in Beijing, with a thesis focused on French language pedagogy.
