Biography
Alix Defrain-Meunier obtained her PhD in Political Science (specialization in International Relations) from Sciences Po in 2024. Since then, she has been an Affiliated Researcher at the Center for International Studies (CERI, Sciences Po).
Her thesis, titled "The International Organization for Migration (IOM): From a Provisional Committee to a UN-Related Organization. An Analysis of Change in an International Organization," was conducted under the supervision of Guillaume Devin.
Her research focuses on migration issues and the role of International Organizations in migration governance. More broadly, she is interested in changes within/ of International Organizations and transformations of multilateralism. Her studies have notably explored the dynamics of inclusion and exclusion of non-state actors in multilateral fora, with a particular focus on the NGO accreditation process at the UN (see her book published by Éditions L’Harmattan in 2019).
As a member of the Multilateral Action Research Group (GRAM), Alix Defrain-Meunier co-leads the “Multilateral Diplomacy and International Organizations” section of the Multilateralism and International Organizations Observatory. She is also a Fellow at the Institut Convergences Migrations (IC Migrations).
