As a PhD candidate in political science/international relations Sarah Tanke is working on Japanese multilateral diplomacy, her supervisor being Professor Guillaume Devin. She graduated from Sciences Po (M.A. in Political science/international relations) and from the University of Hamburg (International M.A. in Japanese studies, including a stay at the Paris Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales, INALCO).

Specializing on Japan, Sarah Tanke has spent two years studying in Japan, among other things as assistant at the Nihon University Population Research Institute (NUPRI) in Tokyo. Working at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York for a year made her discover the multilateral environment.

During her doctoral research she has been visiting the University of Cambridge, the German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ) in Tokyo and Columbia University in New York. For three years she has been the PhD student representative at CERI, co-founder of the DocSem PhD seminar at CERI and is currently coorganizing the research seminar of the research group on multilateral action (GRAM).
