Consortium ArchiPolis

The ArchiPolis consortium brought together several research laboratories around the preservation and promotion of empirical research conducted in the social sciences of politics. It was recognized and supported by the Very Large Research Infrastructure (TGIR) Huma-Num from 2012 to 2016.

A Network of Research Laboratories

Nine social science laboratories were part of the ArchiPolis network: CEE, Ceraps, CSO, Pacte, CEVIPOF, Centre Émile Durkheim, l’OSC, Triangle,, as well as the CDSP (UMS), which served as the administrative coordinator from September 2014 to December 2016.

Preserving and Showcasing Research Archives

A shared methodology and set of tools were developed by researchers within the consortium to ensure the documentation and preservation of survey archives conducted in the participating laboratories on political topics.

ArchiPolis established joint protocols to inventory surveys, collect the necessary documentation for their contextualization, and preserve these archives locally under appropriate conditions. The consortium also designed a metadata model tailored to the description of surveys and launched the Dataverse Archipolis, an online catalogue to feed and consult these metadata records.

An Open Online Catalogue for Political Social Science Research

Although the official ArchiPolis consortium label ended in 2016, the expertise and methods developed, particularly within the CDSP, continue to support the field. These include archive preservation methodologies and data repository management (via Dataverse). The existing network, as well as any new laboratory interested in joining, can benefit from a framework designed to promote and preserve research in the social sciences of politics (political science, sociology, qualitative and quantitative methods).
