The Joly Family Scholarship: empowering purpose-driven leaders at Sciences Po

The Joly Family Scholarship supports outstanding students dedicated to using their skills and education to make a positive difference in the world and promote international understanding, specifically through fostering transatlantic relationships between France and the United States.

The Joly Family Scholarship was established by Hubert Joly, former Chairman and CEO of Best Buy and Harvard Business School professor, and Hortense le Gentil-Joly, executive leadership coach, speaker, and author, to support their mission of creating positive impact in the world through purpose-driven leadership, using business as a force for good, and promoting education. Equally at home in France and the United States, Hubert and Hortense are deeply committed to enhancing Franco-American collaboration.

“Studying abroad and experiencing other cultures can shape tomorrow’s human leaders,” said Hubert Joly and Hortense le Gentil-Joly. “Engaging with new people and perspectives nurtures empathy- the foundation of impactful leadership.”

Cédric Meeschaert, founding member of the Sciences Po American Foundation, noted how the award reflects the Foundation’s broader mission: “This scholarship perfectly embodies our goal of fostering transatlantic bonds and meaningful dialogue. By immersing scholars in a new culture, it brings together bright minds from both sides of the Atlantic to learn from one another and forge lasting connections.”

The scholarship supports Sciences Po students studying at eligible universities in the US and American students studying at Sciences Po. The impact of the scholarship is already being felt by its first recipients. Apio Tunmer,  part of the first class of laureates, shared:

“The Joly Family Scholarship not only supports this next step in my journey, it entrusts me with a legacy I am deeply motivated to honor. I see this opportunity as both a responsibility and a recognition.”

With the launch of the Joly Family Scholarship, Sciences Po strengthens its tradition of educating leaders who will shape a more sustainable, inclusive, and cooperative world. Rooted in the values of leadership, service, and international cooperation, the scholarship marks the beginning of a legacy that will strengthen Franco-American collaboration and empower students to lead with purpose and humanity.
