Justin Hu awarded the 2024 Michel David-Weill Scholarship

Justin Hu will receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Romance Languages & Literatures from Harvard University in May 2024. Justin worked as a research assistant for multiple professors and projects throughout his undergraduate studies, including for Harvard’s Asian American and Pacific Islander COVID-19 Project, as part of Harvard’s Summer Humanities and Arts Research Program, and through a grant from the Center for European Studies to complete 10 weeks of archival research for his senior thesis in France and Martinique.

Aside from his academic experiences, Justin has worked to better not just his own community, but those around him. He served as Program Coordinator for the United Somali Youth camp, as Services Fellow for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Historic Preservation Office, and, as President of Harvard Undergraduate Studies in Education, directed Harvard SPLASH, a peer-teaching program that bridges 250+ Boston-area high school students with Harvard undergraduate volunteer teachers.

Justin’s recommenders only further exemplify his dedication and achievements. One states “Justin is the kind of student who can rekindle the joys of teaching in anyone”; another states simply: “I don’t think I’ve ever met a more brilliant and dedicated young scholar [than Justin], which is saying something since I’ve had the privilege of teaching at Harvard for 30 years now.”

Justin will defer his admission to Harvard Law School, and will head to the Sciences Po School of Research this fall to earn his Master’s in History thanks to the support of the Sciences Po American Foundation and the Michel David-Weill Scholarship. As a future law student passionate about using legal frameworks to culturally and politically empower marginalized communities, he hopes to further study how law can foster intellectual and literary breakthroughs and equip himself with historical blueprints that will translate into education initiatives today.

Justin embodies the core Sciences Po value, combining intellectual rigor and excellence to serve others, and the Michel David-Weill Scholarship panel looks forward to his continued growth and contributions.
