Sciences Po's Health Centre is at your service to:

  • welcome, inform and advise students, teachers, staff and the wider community of Sciences Po
  • carry out certain routine health care services, on prescription or in an emergency
  • schedule medical appointments on site (but not for the provision of medical certificates for sports or absence from class)
  • prescribe and renew treatments
  • provide psychological support
  • provide a quiet room if required

The Health Centre is located in the courtyard of 13, rue de l'Université (on your right as you enter from the street).

Health Centre opening hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9 am – 1 pm and  2 pm - 5.30 pm
  • Friday: 9 am – 1 pm and 2 pm – 4.30 pm

Infirmary (with or without an appointment)

Chrystelle WELTER is a state-qualified nurse. She is available for advice and information. She also carries out certain routine and prescribed treatments, offers health care advice, clinical supervision, nursing aftercare and can suggest referral towards other health care options.

The nurse is available:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9 am – 1 pm and  2 pm - 5.30 pm
  • Friday: 9 am – 1 pm and 2 pm – 4.30 pm

Outside of Infirmary opening times or if the nurse is absent, please contact the Porters office at the entrance to the building.

Doctor - general practitioner (by appointment)

Doctor Valérie AUSLENDER, general practitioner, is available by appointment:

  • Mondays from 2 pm to 6 pm
  • Wednesdays from 2 pm to 6 pm
  • Thursdays from 9 am – 1 pm

Psychological Support Services (by appointment)

It is not uncommon for students to experience unhappiness or depression from time to time. In particular international students may experience higher levels of stress from living abroad, including various levels of culture shock and homesickness. To help students manage their psychological health, Sciences Po offers one-on-one meetings with a professional, aimed at providing support, an understanding ear and useful advice.

Ms Alexandra CLAROU, psychologist is available by appointment:

  • Tuesdays from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm
  • Wednesdays from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm
  • Thursdays from 11 am to 1 pm

Doctor Olivier TARRAGANO, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is available by appointment:

  • Mondays from 2.15 pm to 3.45 pm
  • Tuesdays from 2.15 pm to 3.45 pm
  • Wednesdays from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm
  • Fridays from 2.15 pm to 3.45pm

He speaks French and English.

Sexual harassment monitoring unit

Sciences Po has published guidelines on dealing with sexual harassment (PDF in english - 603 Ko and PDF in french - 549 Ko).

A sexual harassment monitoring unit is also available to listen to, inform and advise any person who is a victim or a witness of sexual violence, and more generally anyone wishing to learn more about the issue.

The monitoring unit can be contacted by telephone on 01 45 49 54 00 and by email.

Only members of the monitoring unit, as listed in the guidelines, are authorised to take calls and consult messages. All proposed meetings will remain strictly confidential and no action will be taken by the unit without the consent of the person received.

These measures are available to students (including those abroad or on work experience), as well as faculty, researchers and Sciences Po personnel, women and men alike.

Sick rooms

If you are feeling unwell, sick rooms with an emergency bed are available in each of the buildings that constitute the Sciences Po Paris campus. Access is granted by request to the Porters at the building reception or at the Health Centre.

Medical insurance cover

Each year, students attending an establishment of higher education are required to subscribe to the French social security system and can also choose to take out complementary health insurance (“mutuelle”).

The CPOA (“Centre Psychiatrique d'Orientation & d'Accueil”) is a regional emergency health service that sees all those in need of help at difficult times.

The BAPU support centres (Bureaux d'aide psychologique universitaires):

Students can visit these centres for support and advice from psychiatrists and psychologists. In order to access this service free of charge, you just need your student card and to be registered with the French social security system:

The doctors who work for this service do not write prescriptions but they can provide:

  • The medical certificate required for the adaptation ("tiers temps") of study and exam schedules for students with disabilities or chronic medical conditions.
  • The medical certificate required for community living required by the student halls of residence ("cités universitaires").
  • The annual medical certificate required for ALL sports at Sciences Po (bring your “carnet de santé” if you have one and your student card).

All 1st-year students must have a medical check-up with this service. You will receive notification of your appointment during the academic year.
