Nudging gender desegregation in Higher Education: evidence from a field experiment
Despite the marked increases in women’s educational and labour market participation in western countries, the distribution of genders across fields of study continues to be highly unbalanced. This has important consequences for occupational sex segregation and for gender inequalities in earnings. I present a randomised field experiment based on a counselling initiative targeting high school seniors and document that it managed to substantially reduce the overrepresentation of women in less occupationally-rewarding fields.
