Mark STABILE

Mark STABILE comes to the Department from the Rotman School of Management and was Founding Director of the School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Toronto. He acquired his PhD from Columbia University. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).

Professor Stabile joins the Department September 1st as Full Professor of Economics after several months as visiting professor here.

Economics of child health and development; Public/private mix in financing health care; Tax policy and health insurance.

Gene M. GROSSMAN (Princeton University)

The Department of Economics is pleased to announce the arrival of Gene M. GROSSMAN, Jacob Viner Professor of International Economics, Chair of the Economics Department and Director of the International Economics Section (IES) at Princeton University.

PRIMARY RESEARCH

- International trade, notably work on the determinants of international competitiveness in dynamic, research-intensive industries;
- Relationship between economic growth and the environment, notably a pair of widely-cited papers which initiated a voluminous literature on the so-called “Environmental Kuznets Curve”;
- Political forces that shape modern trade politics (special interest politics, interest groups and trade policy)

His recent research focuses on the causes and consequences of offshoring, or what he and co-author Esteban Rossi-Hansberg have termed “task trade.”

Ruben DURANTE has been appointed as Research Affiliate to the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR)

Ruben DURANTE, Assistant Professor at Sciences Po's Department of Economics, was appointed as Research Affiliate for the CEPR's  Public Economics Programme this past summer.

The Public Economics (PE) programme covers several areas - taxation, government expenditures, social policy, welfare state, political economy, development, fiscal and welfare implications of european integration.

The programme is directed by Henrik Kleven (London School of Economics) who will be the guest speaker at our October 5th Departmetal Seminar.

Roberto GALBIATI was awarded the HDR (habilitation à diriger les recherches)

Roberto GALBIATI, Assistant Professor at Sciences Po's Department of Economics and CNRS researcher at Sciences Po's Obeservatoire sociologique du changement (OSC) , was awarded the highest qualification possible in France: the HDR.

Roberto Galbiati’s research focuses on the relationship between the economy and law, in particular the way in which legal norms interact with economic behaviors. He teaches experimental economics and the economics of crime at the graduate level for the Department of Economics as well as the Doctoral School at Sciences Po.

Nicolas Coeurdacier and Stéphane GUIBAUD (Assistant Professors at the Department), with Keyu JIN (LSE), have co-authored an article - "Credit Constraints and Growth in a Global Economy".
