The Department of Economics salutes Pr Jean Tirole upon winning the Nobel Prize for Economics"Rigorous, modest and pedagogical" are the Department's and LIEPP's Etienne Wasmer's closing words in an article that appeared in "Libération" in an effort to sum up the immense intellectual and personal qualities of Pr Jean Tirole. The Nobel Prize was awarded to him for "his analysis of market power and regulation", but as Etienne Wasmer points out: "Jean Tirole has made fundamental contributions,...,in at least six fields of economic theory" - there is a formidable breadth and depth to his research.
