Launch of the Master’s Thesis Prize for Technology, Global Affairs & Public Policy

The prize is launched to reward the outstanding work of two students from PSIA and EAP which promotes interdisciplinary study of technological innovation in relation to global affairs and/or public policy.

Viewed through the lens of geopolitics and global governance, technology reveals itself as a transformative force in international affairs and public policy. Technology has the potential to drive innovation, improve efficiency, and enhance connectivity and human exchange at a global scale. However, it also presents fundamental economic and societal concerns, can heighten strategic tensions, and bring up ethical dilemmas challenging our forms of governance and citizenship.

This prize will recognise excellence in a Master’s thesis exploring the intersection between technology, public policy and international affairs. SciencesPo students are invited to submit their Master’s theses on a topic which demonstrates how new technologies can either:

  1. Be a force to advance global goals,
  2. Have transformative impact on public policy agendas across borders,
  3. Address emerging challenges shaping diplomatic relations,
  4. Generate new societal, economic or regulatory issues requiring new policy responses.

The Prize welcomes students’ work exploring various technologies and their interaction with other disciplines. Although digital technologies are now at the center of many policy debates, submissions focusing on other types of technologies (e.g. spatial, military, health, environmental technologies…) are also welcomed. Special attention will be directed towards the development of practical solutions, international standards or policy frameworks for responsible technologies to enhance security, foster social prosperity and achieve other global goals.

Rewards

Two annual prizes will be awarded.

The selected theses will be published on SciencesPo’s official websites and receive prizes of an equivalent value of 500 euros each.

Authors will be invited to present and discuss their thesis with SciencesPo academia during the Fall Semester.

Eligibility

All students who validated a Master’s thesis as part of their degree at PSIA or EAP in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 are eligible. The thesis submitted to this Prize must be identical to the one validated by their School. To ensure fairness across candidates, any modification or update to the submitted document will entail automatic disqualification.

Winners will be invited to publish their master's thesis or an executive summary of it on the PSIA Technology and Global Affairs Innovation Hub and the EAP websites. They will also have the chance to talk about their work in a podcast episode and during a lunchtime seminar.
