Navigating Geopolitics for Business
In an increasingly uncertain, contested and fragmented world, businesses are structurally exposed to geopolitical developments that can reshape markets, disrupt operations and alter competitive dynamics. The global landscape is undergoing profound and rapid shifts, driven by strategic rivalry between major powers, regional conflicts, trade disputes, sanctions regimes, technological competition, energy insecurity and the growing use of economic statecraft.
Today, geopolitical uncertainty is no longer an external concern but a core business challenge. From energy security and access to critical raw materials to cyber threats, supply-chain vulnerabilities, regulatory retaliation and restrictions on trade, investment and technology flows, companies must navigate a world in which states are reasserting their power and influence—with direct consequences for corporate strategy and performance.
As a result, geopolitical risk can no longer be confined to government affairs, diplomacy or security functions. It has become a board-level issue that shapes investment decisions, market entry strategies, sourcing choices, resilience planning and corporate reputation. Senior leaders must increasingly assess how political and geopolitical developments may affect their organisations and integrate these considerations into strategic decision-making.
