Vyas, Lokesh

PhD Candidate, Researcher

Lokesh is a doctoral candidate at Sciences Po, Paris, examining the genealogy of copyright’s “Balance” rhetoric, with a specific emphasis on Indian Copyright law under the guidance of Prof. Séverine Dusollier.

Through his research, he is trying to contest and comprehend the evolution of the concept of "public interest" in copyright law since the advent of the first International Copyright Convention, i.e., the Berne Convention, 1886.

Lokesh's academic journey began with a law degree at Nirma University, India. Later, he completed his LLM at American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) where he worked as a research scholar for the Arcadia Funded project on the Right to Research in International Law. He was awarded the InfoJustice Fellowship and Arodhum Scholarship to study LLM.

His overarching interests revolve around knowledge governance and information regulation, and he enjoys delving into these subjects through the lens of Critical Legal Studies (CLS) and Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL).

Lokesh writes for SpicyIP and IPRMENTLAW, on the issues of intellectual property law and innovation-related matters.
