Please join us for our upcoming conversation part of the series Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) conversations on current debates/crises on : Research Handbook on Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL).

In this conversation we will engage with the Research Handbook on Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), a major collective volume edited by Antony Anghie, B. S. Chimni, Michael Fakhri, Karin Mickelson, and Vasuki Nesiah.

This Research Handbook provides a wide-ranging overview of Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL). Showcasing the diversity of TWAIL methodological orientations, it covers TWAIL perspectives on central historical and theoretical debates in Marxism, Feminism, Post-colonial studies, law and literature, law and economics and queer theory. It also covers TWAIL approaches to different subfields of international law such as customary international law, treaties, foreign investment law, labor law, human rights, international personality and the law of the sea, as well as challenging contemporary issues, including debt, migration, food sovereignty, climate change, apartheid, public health and religion.

Ultimately, the Research Handbook showcases an expanded and enriched vision of international law, assessing how alternate methodologies can lead to a fairer legal system.  Attached is the Handbook’s introduction and table of contents.

The discussion will be led by Arnulf Becker Lorca (EUI Department of Law) and Vidya Kumar (SOAS College of Law) , who will present and guide the conversation in the presence of many of the editors and contributing authors, creating a space for exchange, reflection, and debate on the trajectories and futures of TWAIL:
