Discussing the Israel-Hamas conflict: a challenge for the political humanities
About this event
13 November 2023 from 18:00 until 20:00
The discussion on the current conflict between Israel and Hamas and its moral, political and legal dimensions has become global throughout academia. Universities, websites and newspapers have widely published and disseminated various texts such as position papers, letters and petitions.
The goal of our first special session is to examine some of the arguments that have been put forward by our colleagues on both side of the Atlantic and in Israel. We’ll start with a discussion of the major dilemmas that have emerged since the onset of the conflict and the massacres.
Our purpose is to shed light on possible blind spots, and to clarify some of the relevant questions that have emerged in the public debate.
Our group - the Circle of Political Humanities at Sciences Po - wishes to contribute to this ongoing global conversation. Our aim is to pursue this task in a scholarly way and with great civility, which is very much consistent with the values of our university.
With Ariel Colonomos, Astrid Von Busekist, Rebecca Mignot-Mahdavi and Frederique Leichter-Flack.
Registered participants will be informed about the venue and the readings.
