Professor of University and sociologist of industrial and artistic worlds, Gwenaële Rot's work focuses on the analysis of work in action in different sectors (automotive, underground public transport, audiovisual, nuclear and petrochemical industries) and different areas (Ile-de-France, South and Occitanie regions, Northern Morocco). She is particularly interested in the articulation of work times and spaces, professional hierarchies and evaluation processes, the management of errors and the assumption of responsibility, the engagement of bodies at work and cooperation in critical situations in the course of action.
For some years now, she has been developing a major research program devoted to the sociology of artistic work and art history. In the sociology of art, she is studying changes in work in the film and audiovisual industry, and in particular the impact of digital technologies on the transformation of professions and the ways in which images and sounds are made (single film or TV series).
With François Vatin, she is engaged in long-term socio-historical research into the links between art and industry, art and politics, and art in the city. Her research is also action-research, aimed at raising public and private awareness of the challenges of safeguarding 20th-century industrial and artistic heritage.
