L'Axe Gouvernance et organisations économiques du CSO et AXPo reçoivent Patrick Aspers, de l'Université de Saint-Gall, en Suisse. Son intervention s'intitule : Coping with uncertainty and ambiguity

The session will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., both in person at Sciences Po, Room K.011 on the Saint-Thomas campus, and remotely via Zoom. If you would like to attend, please contact Samia Ben.

Abtract: Uncertainty is often seen as a nuisance and something to be reduced. Too much uncertainty is said to be harmful for society, by, for example, reducing investment, causing political turmoil, and triggering social upheaval. At the same time, uncertainty is a condition for profit and may propel change. Uncertainty may be caused by external shocks, such as the pandemic, but may also be actively produced. The seminar focuses on the possibilities and limitations of organizing uncertainty, as well as reducing it. Both theoretical perspectives and empirical examples will be discussed.
